Customer Review: Limited lifespan--but not that limited

As noted in other reviews, this whisk seems to have the best of both worlds: metal strength and flexibility, silicone non-scratchability. The problem is, as some reviewers noted, that after a while the silicone breaks and the metal becomes exposed. Once that happens you may start scratching your pans, but perhaps worse, where the silicone coating is cracked, muck may check in but won't check out, to paraphrase Alton B.
Still, while it lasts it is an excellent tool, and I have to say that mine has lasted for almost two years now. Sure it is time to throw it out, but considering its two years of probably daily use (and heavy-duty use at that--steel-cut oats!) this hasn't been such a bad buy for me. I'll look into that Le Creuset whisk, it'll go great with my Dutch ovens, but if it's priced like other LC products I'm just getting me another one of these.

Ideal for stovetop cooking and for nonstick cookware, the three silicone whisks in this set meet exacting 21st-century standards for both appearance and performance. Together, the whisks handle most kitchen needs. There's a 10-inch, 8-wire flat whisk for blending gravies and sauces in shallow pans; a 10-inch, 10-wire egg whisk for beating eggs, creams, and sauces; and a 10-inch, 16-wire piano whisk for mixing light batters. The flat and egg whisks are lightweight with slender handles. The piano whisk has a thick handle and enough heft to power through a batter. Securely connected to round, satin-finish, stainless-steel handles, the whisks' silicone-coated, stainless-steel wires are heat-resistant to 650 degrees F (345 degree C) and therefore perfect for using on the stovetop without danger of melting in hot sauces or by touching a burner. Because they're soft they won't harm nonstick cookware, and because they're flexible they follow the contours of a bowl or pan.
