After seeing my mom go through several similar products in a short period of time, I didn't expect that much longevity from this one. I've been quite pleasantly surprised, though. I bought mine in 2007 and 4 years later it is still going strong (mine lacks the Cuisipro lettering, instead having it only on the base, but otherwise appears to be identical).
I use it with Kirkland brand extra virgin olive oil, and it gets a lot of use. The only ideas I have to prevent clogs are:
1) Use it at moderate temperatures (I can imagine that those from snow country might experience low enough temperatures to increase oil viscosity)
2) Don't clean it. Yeah, I know it sounds wrong, but really you shouldn't have to. Maybe some people are damaging their mechanism in the process? Also introducing water into the tubing might block the oil since the two don't mix.
3) Don't build too much pressure. You really don't need to. Release the pressure when storing for long periods.

Cuisipro Stainless-Steel SprayPump Non-Aerosol MisterIdeal for those on a low-fat diet, this non-aerosol mister adds a light coating of oil to salads or fish for flavor or lightly oils a baking pan or grill, greatly reducing the amount of fats used for cooking. The spray mister can also be used for spritzing plants or yourself with water or spraying windows with a vinegar-and-water cleaning solution. To use, pump the lid a few times over the spray valve to draw fresh air into the SprayPump and to create a build-up of internal pressure. Press on the valve and the SprayPump releases a fine mist.
